Observing the speed limit. Every vehicle model has a different optimal fuel economy at a different speed. Miles per gallon (MPG) decreases rapidly on most vehicles when speed rises above 60 mph. For every 5 miles over 60 mph, you pay an extra $.30 per gallon for gas. Simply put, the faster you go above 60 mph, the more you will pay at the pump.

Maintaining your cars brakes. Not only will this save your life by stopping the vehicle, old worn down brake pads waste gas and can severely harm a vehicle. Worn down brake pads take longer to stop which wastes gas, and can greatly damage the rotor.
